What an assessment includes.
Every assessment starts with your goals and ends with a clear, ranked list of what to change. In between, we measure. Here is what that involves.
Two starting points
Existing spaces
An on-site assessment of the home, centre or workplace you already use. We visit, measure the rooms that matter most, and leave loggers in place to record conditions over several days and nights.
Spaces not yet built
A review of plans and specifications for a new build or renovation, so light, air, temperature, noise and materials are right before construction starts, when changes cost least.
What we measure
The scienceAir
CO2, fine particles (PM2.5), total VOCs, temperature and humidity, logged over several days. Formaldehyde and nitrogen dioxide where relevant. Moisture and mould inspection.
Light
Light at eye level where people sit, work and sleep, at the times each room is used. Daylight, fittings, colour temperature and night-time light in bedrooms.
Thermal environment
Temperature and humidity loggers in key rooms, including overnight. Thermal imaging to find gaps in insulation and air leaks.
Acoustics
Background and peak sound levels, overnight bedroom logging, echo, and how sound travels between rooms and from outside.
Water
Supply, plumbing and fittings review, with laboratory testing through a NATA-accredited laboratory where warranted.
Materials
VOCs and formaldehyde, recent renovations and furnishings, and help specifying materials for upcoming work.
Sleep environment
Light, CO2, temperature, humidity and sound in the bedroom over several nights.
Not every assessment needs everything. We agree the scope with you first, based on your goals.
Your report
A report you can act on.
What we measured, what it means, and what to change, in plain language and in order of priority. Each recommendation notes the strength of the evidence behind it, the likely cost, and whether it is a job for you, a tradesperson or a designer.
We walk you through the findings, and can brief your builders, architects, designers and trades. Once changes are made, we measure again so you can see what improved.
